Stainless steel price
Stainless steel is a combination of several metals (metal alloys) consisting of iron, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and carbon. The proportions of these minerals vary to give several types of stainless steel, sometimes manufacturers add metals or other substances such as magnesium, copper or nitrogen in order to give the alloy special properties.
You can hardly find a house without Stainless steel products. Stainless steel is characterized by its strength and resistance to rust chemicals found in foods and beverages, the high resistance of stainless steel makes it the ideal material suitable for industrial, scientific and military uses.
The history of stainless steel
In 1821 French metallurgist Pierre Bertier discovered the resistance of iron-chromium alloys to certain acids and suggested their use in cutlery, but 19th-century scientists were unable to produce a combination of low carbon and high chromium that is found in most modern stainless steel products, and the high chrome alloys they could produce were so fragile and impractical. In the 20th century, a lot of scientists tried to do developments until they obtained the modern stainless steel.
Types of stainless steel
Stainless steel is divided by composition into four main groups that differ from each other in their resistance to corrosion and their mechanical properties, as well as their cost and industrial use, and each type is referred to as a number called the dal number according to different systems globally.
“Martensitic stainless steel
This alloy is characterized by containing carbon, are magnetized, low-weldable, and moderate resistance to corrosion. it is used in Purposes requiring high tensile and hardness resistance and relatively moderate corrosion resistance.
It is used in the manufacture of fuse parts and pellet bearings such as the 440 alloy and the 420 alloy are also used to make the surgical instruments.
“Ferritic stainless steel
this type is high in chromium compared to other species. One of the most famous types of alloys in this group is the alloy 430 that is widely used in the manufacture of car decoration parts, in ammonia oxidation factories and in the manufacture of household food items such as dishes and pots as well as refrigerators and washing machines, .the two types (422) and ( 446) are sulfur resistant due to high chromium.
“Austenitic stainless steel
The alloys of this group are the most widely used stainless steel because of their good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance and can be welded as they are non-magnetic and does not harden at rapid cooling because they contain manganese and nickel.
Type 306 contains 18% chrome and 10% nickel, for this reason, It is also known as steel (18/10) and is often used in high-quality knives and kitchen pots.
“Duplex stainless steel
It is more resistant to local corrosion, particularly crackling. It features high chromium (19-32%), molybdenum (up to 5%) and fewer nickel contents than Austenite stainless steel.
Stainless steel price
Average stainless steel price is$1.03/lb -$1.58/lb. This stainless steel price may vary according to grade, type and the supplier of stainless steel.
